Artrageous exceeded all expectations. The weather today on the Outer Banks at Dowdy Park in Nags Head was spectacular. There’s no other word for it. Sunshine, nice breeze, temperatures in the mid to upper 70s. Maybe that’s the reason so many people were on hand for the annual celebration of the children and the arts.
Or maybe it was that celebration of kids, the arts and creativity all rolled into an outdoor gathering.
And quite a few people mentioned how good it felt to be outside on a beautiful day and seeing friends that the past year has made it difficult to see.
Most likely it was everything.
And it did not disappoint…not one bit.
Beginning with the kids from the Mustang Outreach Program laying down some great music, it was a special day. A day focussed on kids.
Kitty Hawk Kites was there, helping to make a kite. It’s called a sled kite, just a basic easy kite to make and it flies pretty well Especially with young legs running into the wind.
There was a bubble tub on hand as well with giant bubble makers. There was a lot of fun with that as well.
Of course, there were plenty of arts and crafts for kids to do. Popsicle helicopters, paper bag hats, block printing, pumpkin painting, hand painting—the list seems to go on and on, and it seemed as though the young artists tried to get to everyone.
Something new this year was the “Young Artist Village” where young artist were able to purchase their own booth, and sell their art. There was some remarkably good art on display at those booths.
It felt so good to be back outside again with other people, celebrating some of the things that are best about the Outer Banks.
