Easter Sunday was beautiful here on the Outer Banks. Maybe a little chilly, but the sun was out for most of the day. The wind is picking up now, though, although it is evening.
This Easter was one of those odd times when it seems that there was a real confluence of the most significant holidays of the year for some of the world’s great religions. Passover fell on Friday this year and right now it’s Ramadan.
Mid April on the Outer Banks also brings the an early event fetching lots of visitors to the area. This is Bike Week.
The weather did cooperate Saturday and today (Sunday), but tomorrow is looking like a day to park that bike and hole up inside. the winds are forecast to hold steady at 20-25 with stronger gusts and between 1”-1.25” of rain.
On the bright side, after tomorrow, Monday, things improve dramatically with no rain forecast for the rest of the week and temperatures rising to the low to mid 70s.
One of the things that makes Bike Week so great is that it really takes in all of the Outer Banks. There are events scheduled from Mann’s Harbor on the Dare Mainland to Nags Head and Kitty Hawk. There’s a charity Poker Run, music demos—something for everyone.
Sponsored by Outer Banks Harley Davidson with lots of local support, the Bike Week has become an annual staple that is an important part of the shoulder season.
Next big event on the Outer Banks will be the Outer Banks Sporting Events Flying Pirate Half Marathon Weekend, next weekend April 23-24.
