With rain and even the possibility of a thunderstorm forecast for New Year’s Eve on the Outer Banks, it look like commonsense has overruled the party scheduled Saturday to welcome in the New Year in Manteo.
The New Year will happen, of course, no matter what Manteo does, but the celebration this year will be happening on Sunday. From 4:00 – 7:00 p.m.
So the New Year will be celebrated on New Year’s Day. Probably not a tragedy.
Regardless of the day the celebration will be occurring, everything that we’ve come to treasure about gathering in downtown Manteo will bee there.
Unfortunately, some things can’t be rescheduled. The bands are booked for a specific day and they often have something else on tap so they can’t be rescheduled. Nor can the amusements that have been a part of the celebrations in the past.
Nonetheless it should still be a good time. The Yuletide fire pit will be there. The town is scheduling some family friendly games and some giveaways. So it should be a good time.
And of course, fireworks. They’ll shoot those off at 7:00 p.m.
The town is saying they’re going to reschedule the music and amusements. We’ll have to see how that will work out. Manteo has done a remarkably good job of creating fun times in their downtown, so hopefully that will be the case again.
Sunday is forecast to be a fairly mild winter day here on the Outer Banks. Good thing too. That’s the day of the Polar Bear Plunge. Last year there were about 100 or so taking on the challenge for charity.
Regardless of the air temperature for the Polar Plunge, that water is cold. The Army Corps of Engineers is reporting the ocean temperature just shy of 49 degrees. That’s usually dry suit temperature of surfers and divers.
Lots to do on the Outer Banks. Be sure to stop by for a visit and stay in a Brindley Beach Vacations home.
