The Bald Eagle II is still there, hard ashore in the Southern Shores surf. Progress is being made. They pumped the diesel fuel out of her today and by the end of the week they should have the ship off the beach.
The Bald Eagle II is a 75’ ship, so moving it requires considerable expertise. There is a salvage ship under contract en route from Charleston, SC. According to the ship’s owner, after getting the ship off the beach, it will go to Hampton Roads, VA for repair.
Meanwhile the beach and the Atlantic Ocean is still much the same as it has always been…except, of course, for the 75’ shrimp trawler parked in the middle of the beach.
But walking along the Southern Shores beach yesterday before a front came through, it was warm—68 degrees, the surf was a little high but not too bad, and it was simply a very pleasant day on the Outer Banks.
Just off the beach a double-crested cormorant was floating by when it suddenly took flight.
Offshore, the shrimp trawlers are still there, working the waters in search of fresh seafood. Things must have been going well—seabirds of all kinds could be seen flocking to the trawler, indicating a heavy haul was being brought onboard.
The Outer Banks is like no other place. See what the experience is really like when staying in a Brindley Beach Vacations home.
