Last year we put the word out about Call Sign Romeo, a movie that was locally produced and filmed. And now we’re delighted to say, it’s getting some national attention.

The movie’s producer just put the word out that a national film distribution company, Freestyle Digital Media, has entered into an agreement to distribute the film. The agreement makes Call Sign Romeo available after July 4 on digital platforms including iTunes and Apple TV, Amazon, Google Play, and others.

The movie features some great Outer Banks scenery, has a very interesting plot as a coming of age film that uses high school wrestling as a backdrop for some difficult life lessons.

Producer Sam Cortez co-wrote the script with local actor Stuart Parks. Parks is currently playing the part of John White in The Lost Colony, a part he has held down for a number of years. It is one of the principal roles in the play.

The movie is rated PG-13. There is some rugged language—it is a story about teenagers, after all, and some of the themes that are discussed would be difficult to explain to  a five year old. That is especially true when exploring troubling issues—issues that challenge how we come to preconceived notions of others.

Nonetheless, in many ways this is a good family film for any member of the family 13 years of age and older.

Is the movie as slick and polished as a Hollywood production. No it is not. But is it a thoroughly enjoyable film that explores real issues? Yes…absolutely.
