Elizabethan Gardens on Roanoke Island is one of our favorite places to visit. There is always something in bloom, the paths are filled with wonderful flowers, the statuary is classic—truly classic, probably 16th century Italian.
It’s a wonderful place to wander and simply relax.
And now there is another reason to go at least the next five weeks.
Working with Rock Star Booking, Elizabethan Gardens will be hosting Sundays at the Overlook, and singer and songwriter series through October 23.
The shows are at the Gazebo at Overlook Terrace with its spectacular view looking north to Albemarle Sound. The setting is relaxing and pleasant, surrounded by trees with the soft green of the lawn.
Today’s performance featured Dustin Furlow from the Hampton Roads area of Virginia. Playing some remarkably complex yet mellow arrangements, it seemed to match the day perfectly.
Many of his songs were acoustic, but he also sang a number of his own compositions, singing with a very nice tenor voice.
Next Sunday it will be Julie Clark, another Virginia based singer/songwriter. She describes her music as, “A captivating sound that leads you willingly into her memorable, acoustic folk-pop songs.” It should be a great afternoon of music.
Performances are from 1:00 pm. - 3:00 p.m. There is a food truck on hand for a bite to eat and the Garden staff is manning a cash bar.
The shows will go on rain or shine. If there is a problem with the weather, the show will move indoors to the Odom Building that’s next to the rose garden.
Although a number of the artists are from out of town, there are two local performers on tap. Matt Maguire will be performing on September 25 and Ruth Wyand the following Sunday, October 3.
Fall is here but there is still so much to do on the Outer Banks. Be sure to plan your visit with Brindley Beach Vacations.
