It seemed as though comedy and standup comedy took a break from the Outer Banks for a year or two. Mostly courtesy of COVID. But thanks to the Laughing Gull Comedy Club OBX and the Theater of Dare in Kitty hawk, it looks as though standup comics will once again be heading to the Outer Banks, every Monday through the summer.
First, this coming Monday, June 13, look for Dan Ellison, the Educated Redneck—that’s how he bills himself. His comedy is a little bit country with a lot of observations about the small things in our life. Should be fun.
Eric Thompson, Comedian, Magician and Illusionistis the following week, and Thompson will also be making an appearance at NouVines in Manteo. A bit more intimate setting than the Theater of Dare.
And then the comedians just keep on rolling in throughout the summer.
The one kind of act that will not be billed, according to local comedian and Laughing Gull owner Greg Smrdel is anything X rated. He just doesn’t see that as part of why people come to the Outer Banks.
There are a couple of gaps in the scheduling right now, but Greg is confident comedians are looking forward to the chance to perform on an Outer Banks stage. The theater of Dare does feature a bar in the lobby serving wine and beer.
The Theater of Dare with its new location in Kitty Hawk has really stepped up its game. During the week, Stacy Maxwell and Pork Chop Productions is hosting a series of children’s theater workshops, and twice a month she is putting a show on just for kids. All fo that in addition to the weekly standup comedy.
Entertainment on the Outer Banks keeps getting better and better. Stop by for a visit a be sure to spend some time in one of our wonderful Brindley Beach Vacations homes.
