The summer of 2022 is looking like it’s going to be another record setter. Better, even than last year, which is hard to imagine since we were at 100% occupancy for most of the summer. But with every day, more and more folks are choosing to spend a week or two with us here on the Outer Banks and the selection of vacation homes is tightening.
“The available weeks in high season are very low right now,” Doug Brindley the owner and President of Brindley Beach Vacations said. “We’re on a pace not seen since the 90s”
Doug has been involved with visitor services and real estate on the Outer Banks for over 30 years, and remembers that it was in the 1990s when visitors discovered how wonderful it was to spend some time on the Outer Banks. But, at that time, there were some disappointed vacationers as the number of people wanting to stay with us simply outstripped the supply of homes.
We are seeing the same pattern emerge. There is construction and homes are being built, but this year and even into 2023, Doug’s advice is direct and simple.
“Book now,” he said. “In addition, consider booking for 2023. The low supply and high demand we’re seeing will be here for years.”
We certainly do want to take care of all of our guests and there are still some properties available, but we don’t know how much longer that will be the case. The other problem that visitors may encounter is the summer week or weeks they are hoping to come to the Outer Banks, may not be available. It may take some flexibility to find a time a home for a visit.
Don’t delay. The Outer Banks is truly one of the most amazing places imaginable to visit. Please, make those reservations as soon as possible.
