The New Year is upon us and like the rest of the country we’re gearing up for 2022 on the Outer Banks.

There are a plenty of places that will be celebrating the traditional out with the old and in with the new throughout the Outer Banks, but for us, we really enjoy the annual celebration on the Manteo Waterfront.

There is so much about it that is classic small town and geared to the whole family.

There’s music and entertainment, food, and best of all a kid’s countdown at 8:00 p.m. at the Dare County Arts Council Gallery…the old Dare County Courthouse. That way even the youngest family members get to watch a ball drop and count down to the New Year.

It has been a strange year here as it has been everywhere. COVID has certainly made things difficult and hopefully sooner rather than later we’ll be past this, but it is still with us. Nonetheless, here on the Outer Banks we seem to be coping fairly well, and it may well be that people are looking for a place to go where the emphasis is on the outdoors and not indoor entertainment.

Something certainly has created what for this sandbar by the sea has been a year where we have welcomed more visitors than we ever have.

Which gives a good way to say, don’t wait on the vacation plans. Make the reservations as soon as possible. The Outer Banks properties have been at 100% occupancy for the past two summers—and that certainly includes Brindley Beach Vacations homes—and everything is telling us this summer will be even busier than last year. Although, honestly, we’re not sure how we can go beyond 100%.

We’ll be sure to check back after the 2022 is finally here with a full report on the Manteo festivities and any other tidbits of celebration news we happen upon.
