There’s a new wineshop in town. NouVines in Manteo. Well…actually the only wine shop in Manteo, but still it’s great to have them there.
What owners Garret Cameron and Lori Wilkinson have created is really a wonderful wine bar with a limited but very nice selection of wines for retail sale.
What really makes NouVines stand out though, is the ambiance the feeling that this is a place you can sit down with a friend, one or two glasses of wine and talk for hours and no one will say anything staying too long. Or even suggest that the conversation should be cut short.
Manteo has been steadily improving its waterfront business district and this latest addition takes it up a substantial step.
One of the thing Garret and Lori are hoping to do is make live music a regular feature and they hit a home run tonight with Mojo Collins.
Mojo usually plays with his band Triple Vision, but tonight it was a solo act and he on fire. All acoustic—a good idea too. The space isn’t very large and two of the walls are brick. Put loud in there and the sound will start bouncing off those walls and be really loud.
But Mojo had it right. He’s very much blues oriented and has been performing professionally since the 1960s. He’s an amazing treasure. His repertoire includes some classics, some of his own tunes and tonight quite a number of instrumental—solo guitar. It made for an amazing evening of music.
We should mention the wine selection at NouVines because it is unlike anything else on the Outer Banks.
The wines are mid-price to lower upper end…$20 to right around $50. To a large extent the wines in the retail section are wines that are a little more difficult to find. Typically smaller wineries. The wines are excellent, and part of the philosophy or the owners is to always have a wide selection for tasting. And if in need of a snack, there is a cheese board and charcuterie.
