It’s back…the Outer Banks Marathon, after a two year hiatus, is back and happening next Sunday, November 13. That’s the Outer Banks Marathon and Half Marathon.

No one wanted to take a couple of years off, but first COVID and then the weather forced the issue. To put weather concern at ease, because there is a system developing just north of the Bahamas. The way it looks right now, and forecasts have been very consistent about this, Florida will be impacted, and we’ll probably get some rain and a little wind from on Friday and Saturday.

Sunday is looking like a perfect long distance race day. Temperatures at the start of the race are forecast to be in the high 40 or right around 50 with bright sunshine. That may sound cool to cold to some people, but for runners who are in a high state of workout for a few hours, those are close to ideal temperatures.

It’s really a whole weekend event. Saturday is bit up in the air with what to expect because of the weather, but there’s good reason for optimism. If the Outer Banks is effected by that tropical system that’s not quite named yet (it will be Nicole if it is), the bulk of it will be rain and wind on Friday with diminishing winds Saturday and gradually clearing skies.

There’s a good chance the 8K, 5K and fun run will be able to be held that morning.

Outer Banks Sporting Events, the organization that puts the Marathon on had a couple fo tough years  with COVID forcing the cancellation of all running events for about a year and a half. Then last November, the half marathon they were hoping to run ran into a nor’easter with 50 mph winds. Tough to have a race in those conditions.

But it’s looking good this year.

There is still a lot happening on the Outer Banks. Be sure to check things out and make plans to stay in a Brindley Beach Vacations home today.
