From Corolla to Stumpy Point the Outer Banks Taste of the Beach is as much a culinary adventure as it is a tour of this sandbar by the sea…although the Stumpy Point is a bit removed from the coastline.
For so many people, the TOB has become an annual visit to the Outer Banks. For 10 years, for some people; others mention the past seven years. And it’s no wonder. What other food event has everything from Dining in the Dark to History of Beer as presented by Paul Charron of Lost Colony Brewing (Stumpy Point).
In talking to the folks who were sampling tequila at Chilli Peppers Coastal Cuisine in Kill Devil Hills, or small plates at Dirty Dick’s in Nags Head. The list seems to go on and on.
What makes this event so great how many choices there are.
In talking to folks as they by the end of the TOB, the one event that everyone who was there raved about was Wes Stepp’s Dinner in the Dark. The concept is remarkable. Diners are blindfolded and are served food and eat relying solely on taste and scent. Everyone we spoke to felt it was a remarkable way to experience fine dining.
Right now we’re curious to know the results of another event—a blind tasting pitting classic American wines against French wines. The contest, held at Trio OBX in Kitty Hawk, recalled a similar tasting in held in France in 1976.
The French wines did not fare so well.
We’ll check back in with the results as soon as we get them.
Sunday, today, seemed a day for champagne and mimosa brunch and generally wind down from a three great days experiencing the best of the Outer Banks restaurants.
Things are really starting to happen on the Outer Banks. Come and be a part of the fun and excitement. There is sure to be a Brindley Beach Vacations home that is perfect for your plans.
