Nestled in the heart of the fabulous and historic Manteo, this fine establishment offers tours, tastings, and the chance to buy up to five bottles of their flagship rum. The law in North Carolina limits the number of bottles sold per customer to five per year.
Rum for All Seasons
There’s no denying that when it comes to drinking rum, there’s no better time than now. Just ask any pirate who’s sailed these seas. Rum helped them bear through the long tough journeys and the occasional battle or two. In that spirit, pun intended, Outer Banks Distilling rolled out its famous Kill Devil brand. Under this daring brand come many series. There’s the Flagship series, the Shipwreck series, the Solspice series, and the Angel’s Share series. Each series has its own unique taste which has to do with the barrels as well as the ingredients. Solspice, for example, is spicy while Shipwreck has a versatility about it that comes from different sugars and molasses.
Tours
Touring a rum distillery is a unique experience that appeals to everyone even if you aren’t a rum fan. But due to the nature of the product, you’ll have to be 21 to take part in the tour. Also, during the summer months, the tours come to a halt. This has to do with the floor of the distillery getting too hot to handle. Price of admission is $10, which covers the tour and tasting.
