Here, guests can roam scenic stretches of the rugged landscape just as easily as they can step back in time by visiting some of the most historic landmarks the area hosts. When you’re in Corolla and can’t wait to encounter important moments from the past, be sure to visit Whalehead in Historic Corolla.
A Precious Piece of the Past
You’ll take a step back in time from the moment you lay eyes on this 1920 residence that’s been meticulously maintained to encompass the spirit, architecture, and furnishings that speak to an era gone by. Situated on 39 acres of waterfront property in the heart of Historic Corolla, Whalehead is an icon of the area that has stood the test of time. Today, this Corolla attraction sits on the National Register of Historic Places but even without that distinction, the home would catch anyone’s eye with its bright yellow façade and bold copper roof.
Where the Story Began
Whalehead was originally established as a hunting lodge by owners Edward Collins Knight Jr. and Marie Louise in 1925. When they weren’t out exploring, the couple was dedicated to keeping the highest standards of social entertainment and imagined Whalehead as the epicenter of high-class vacationers to the area. Whalehead was an inviting and exclusive destination at the time that also solved the problem of Marie Louise not being allowed into the male-only hunting clubs that dotted the region.
