It’s Christmas on the Outer Banks. It’s a cold Christmas this year—beautiful with brilliant sunshine, but the wind has been steady from the northwest all day and the temperatures struggled to just above freezing.
But it doesn’t matter. The there is a feeling of peacefulness and joy in gathering with family and friends that seems to fill the air with a warmth all its own. The roads are almost deserted, so many people are at home with loved ones celebrating this season of wonder and joy.
For children, of course, the day is filled with excitement and the whites fulfilled. Usually fulfilled—probably not too many kids are getting an official Red Ryder carbine action, 200-shot, range model air rifle, with a compass in the stock and a thing that tells time this year. Because no parent wants their child to shoot their eye out.
For the four or five percent of our readers how have not seen the movie, that’s a reference to the classic “A Christmas Story.”
Even without children in the house, there is magic to the season. Spending special time with loved ones is always a treat, and there is almost always an unexpected and wonderful gift from those who care about us the most.
That is what makes the season so special. The gifts, of course, are always nice, although at some point we begin to realize the real joy is in giving the gifts.
The holiday season, though, is so much more than all these things—family, children, gifts and the celebration of miracles. It is a reminder in such a perfect way of what we all believe is possible, if perhaps a distant goal—that peace, joy and acceptance can be part of our lives.
From all of us here at Brindley Beach Vacations, to our many visitors, property owners, and friends, we hope your Christmas was all that you could have hoped for and that the holidays find you truly blessed with friends and family.
